Tommy Burns payed tribute to Bertie Vogts’ role in the building of the team Walter Smith is achieving some success with, and I think that’s fair – it’s Vogts’ youngsters who, with more experience alongside them, are doing all the good work. It’s a rotten result for France, though. Likewise, congratulations to Northern Ireland, who also seem to be over the worst now. England would have been happy with a draw against Denmark.
Wales – injuries and a hopelessly disrupted side. One of those things. Republic of Ireland – like England, victims of the fastest-improving footballing part of Europe. It looks more of a freak result now than it will in a year’s time.
